FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM AN INDIVIDUAL SESSION?

These sessions usually run for an hour in duration but can be shorter or longer depending on your needs. You can choose to engage more traditional talk therapy interventions, yoga therapy sessions or maybe even a combination of both. Sometimes difficult experiences like trauma and abuse are hard to find words for- it can be helpful to start with yoga therapy so that bottom up support can be given to work with the body's warning systems, sleep and regulation capacities before attempting talk therapy.

IF I HAVE INJURIES CAN I STILL DO YOGA THERAPY?

Yes! Yoga therapy can assist to reduce pain sensations, posture issues, and can increase strengthening and alignment in the body. These interventions are tailor designed to your needs, injuries, capacity and more. Yoga therapy interventions are widespread and may include a combination of psychoeducation, imagination or visualisation, talk therapy, gentle movement, breath work, muscle relaxation, posture support and emotional/ nervous system regulation tools. Often these techniques can assist you to feel more in control of the repair process and manage your injuries or pain with increased ease.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SUPERVISION AND SOMATIC CRITICAL REFLECTION?

I can provide tradition supervision for social workers. If there is an interest in self care and stress management, I can incorporate the use of the critical reflective component of supervision with embodied tools and practices that assist workers to reduce their stress activation response.

DO I HAVE TO ATTEND WEEKLY?

No. Depending on needs, an individually tailored intervention program can be set for you. Individual sessions are usually held on a fortnightly basis and schedules are continually assessed with you. Supervision is often held on a monthly or bimonthly roster.

Note; family groups are often held weekly or fortnightly.

DO YOU WORK OFFSITE?

By request I can provide offsite services for services such as specialty group programs, Imramma retreats, corporate yoga classes, training/ workshops and team cohesion programs. To support nervous system regulation and implement best practice standards in therapy, face to face sessions are prioritised. However, based on a therapeutic assessment with adult clients and supervisees accessible options such as telehealth or phone consultation can be made available.

WHAT THEORIES DO YOU WORK BY?

There are many theories and frameworks that I use. The main overarching frameworks include: trauma specific and trauma informed practices, attachment and family systems, resilience and recovery, child development and DDP, somatic and embodied healing/wellbeing and neurobiology impacts of stress/trauma, grief and loss, culturally safe and inclusion models, and anti-oppressive practices.
